So since i'm absolutely terrible at keeping up with this blog, i've made a tumblr which I post on constantly. Quick sporadic posts? Sounds perfect for me! If anyone wants to follow my scottish adventure just head over here: TUMBLR :)

Glasgow

Well guys, i've arrived in Scotland! I arrived on saturday afternoon after a 13 hour journey, and to my surprise greeted with some sunshine and semi warm weather. I've only just got the internet set up, next up figure out how this whole paying for gas and electricity through a card thing works. While my jet lag is slowly subsiding, I can tell this city will be growing on me (I mean i've already seen about 3 or 4 posters advertising some of my favorite bands coming over here). I haven't had too much of a hard time understanding the glaswegian accent, aside from a person or two, and the people have been as nice as i've heard they were!

One thing that I can tell is going to be very different for me is the fact that I am a post graduate student, and a very young one at that. My flat has 4 other girls, my friend and I are the youngest ones here (the others are about 26 or 27). They are nice, but quiet, so I haven't really been able to enjoy freshers week as much as I did when I studied in England 2 years ago. Hopefully once classes start up and I join a few clubs and societies things will run a bit more smoothly. Oh and I definitely need to remember that my umbrella will become a new limb for me.

For now i'll leave you with the only photos i've had the time to take via my phone:

Lately

Lately life has been a blur of coffee, suitcases, friends and food. I have started the process of sifting through all of my clothes and possessions, and have realized just exactly how much crap I have. I feel like a hoarder, I guess I must be my mothers daughter after all ha. Point is, fitting your life into two 50 pound suitcases for 2-3 years is a lot harder than I thought it'd be. Everything makes me sentimental, but weirdly enough all of this has made me realize that taking a year off after graduating instead of jumping into Grad school was a good idea. My head may be a jumble of recipes for lattes and specialty drinks after a year of working at a coffee shop, but its relaxed and ready to take on this new adventure. If I hadn't, I fear I may have burnt out half way through...
Anywho, on the brightside my last week at work is next week and I couldn't be happier to no longer serve coffee to rude rich upper west siders... well with the exception of the handful of great customers I had and my coworkers. It's definitely bittersweet, and the past couple of days the reality of my departure is becoming scarily real. The last time I up and moved like this was over 2 years ago when I studied in England, so I am a little anxious.
I'll leave you with a few photos from the past couple of days, excuse the camera phone quality. Sometimes I can't be bothered to lug my dslr around.

Carrot cake/cheesecake. Do I even need to say more? Junior's cheesecake is just about the best cheesecake ever! The cheesecake factory has never done much to my taste buds, and this is the reason why.

I am convinced I need a big floppy hat, not sure exactly if I can pull it off haha. I wonder if i'll get too many weird looks in scotland if I bust this baby out?

Mmm Bryant park in the summer, extra sunny and not too full. I am not looking forward to the madness that will ensue in the city once fashion week arrives...

Movin' on up!

Right now, I can't stop smiling! The last couple of weeks have been painstakingly long, what with appointments, tons of paper work, and waiting for my visa stuff to go through as well as making sure all my University stuff is in check. I'm the kinda person who needs to be told a few times that everything is going ok before I believe it. The last thing I want is to arrive in Glasgow and be told "sorry, didn't you get the memo?" haha.

Anywho, the point of this is that my visa has been approved and my One way ticket has been purchased! None of this has hit me yet. I don't know at what point it will, but I do know that this summer is flying by ridiculously fast (heat waves and all). I mean come on, its friggin' August already!

So excited I took an excited photobooth picture! I'm such a dork.

Changes!

Since my last post back in November, a lot has changed. My life has gone through so many ups and downs in the past couple of months, that it has been practically impossible for me to blog. One of the biggest and most exciting changes is that i've gotten into Graduate school! If all goes well, and my visa goes through with no problem, I will be off to Glasgow, Scotland for 2 years come September. Words can't even begin to express how excited I am to start a new adventure!

As for this blog? I will be steering away from fashion blogging, and moving more towards life posts, and anything and everything that comes to mind. Probably not everyday posts, i've never been one to update that frequently, but keep an eye out!

A Late Halloween Post

This past halloween I went up to my college to visit and spend time with some of my friends that are still up there. Boy was that ever a surreal experience! I am so used to going home for the weekend and coming back to school, and having it switched this time around felt all sorts of weird. Being back up there brought back so many memories and gave me some very unexpected new ones as well as frustrations. It felt like I had graduated so long ago, but in reality it has only been a couple of months. Regardless of that I was extremely glad with the break from the "real" world haha.

The best part aside from seeing my friends, was exploring the little town my school is in. The cheesy little shops, the delicious food stops and of course the gorgeous scenery of the Berkshires! It felt amazing to breathe in fresh air, and just listen to soft rustling of leaves and the smell of fall so potent in the air. Such a nice change from the overbearing city and herds of people.

And here is the costume I worked so hard on:

Let me tell you, hand sewing a dress from scratch is no joke! It took forever, but was relaxing to do at the same time haha. And a plus? It didn't rip or anything on the dance floor ;), i'd say I did a pretty good job! Hope everyone has had a good weekend/had a good halloween!

Guilty

Lately i've been thinking a lot about guilty pleasures. Whether it be singing at the top of your lungs to an old spice girls song or enjoying a T.V. show you're too embarrassed to admit you watch, hell even eating some of the weirdest food combinations hehe. It's interesting to see how society can sometimes constrict us from just being ourselves, no matter how weird or unnaturally quirky we may be. I've always been the weird one in my family, because of my tastes in music, clothing, and humor amongst other things. Growing up in New York and my tiny little caribbean island has given me a lot of perspective on what goes on around me, and has made me more observant of people's behaviors. This is probably why I majored in sociology, ha.

So what's brought this whole ramble up you say? Well i've been feeling like i've got ants in my pants in this city (figuratively of course!), and its made me realize that i've grown up around people who have never really cared for change. "why would you want to leave one of the best cities in the world?" is what I often hear, and my logic is that you don't really have the experience to compare a city to the rest of the world when you've never left it. I'm not saying that its wrong to love where you are from or anything along those lines, I just think its foolish to put down people for wanting to explore other places just because you don't want to ever leave where you are.

Anywho, I thought it'd be fun to share some guilty pleasures/weird things about myself.
1. I collect little piggy banks hehe
2. I sing at the top of my lungs to old 90's pop bands (i'm sure this is a give for most people though). I do, however, sing absolutely horribly. So much so, that i've been paid 5 bucks one time to stop singing!
3. I absolutely love baking pies, but I won't eat them... I know this is pretty sacrilegious to say but I dislike the taste of pie very much, and any form of cooked fruit.
4. I have a very large collection of teen vogues in my possession (the earliest one is from 2005), I don't buy them anymore but I can't seem to throw them away haha.
5. I can't stop eating wheat thins with whipped cream cheese, its sooooo good! (although that's not as weird as my friend's obsession with putting cheese in her hot chocolate... blegh).

What are some of your guilty pleasures/weird things you do?
